Capstone Project

Nuntius Salutem

(Health message)

Our project, Nuntius Salutem, is focused on cell-phone induced distracted driving. Our name, Nuntius Salutem, is latin for "health message". Our "health message" will be told in the form of an app paired with a physical product we are developing to help drivers stay away from non-essential applications, specifically social media and texting apps, when driving. The Nuntius Salutem app and product will aid in reducing the 1.6 million crashes that occur every year in the United States due to drivers being distracted by their cell phone.

Prototype Design Documentation

  • (fig. 1 A sketch of our physical product. Overall dimensions included.)

  • (fig. 2 A sketch of the cell phone the sleeve will fit into. Specific dimensions were taken on all parts of the phone (ports, speakers, screens..) to enable us to create a CAD prototype that will fit the model phone. I drew a birds eye view of the phone screen and of the bottom. (Samsung Galaxy S7)

Update #3

Nuntius Salutem has been making a lot of progress in some areas and less in others. Our Physical prototype is going very well and is all on track to be finished and tested before spring break. The physical prototype was printed from a flexible PLA plastic filament. More importantly, it fits the samsung like a glove. For our digital prototype things are a lot more challenging as programing and extension is very new for all of us. While I would hope we would finish on time I am expecting it to continue to be very  challenging. Making an extension to interface with google maps is one of the hardest parts about the creation of the NS extension.
